Protists and Fungi

This upcoming week in seventh grade science, we will be dealing with protists and fungi.
It is Chapter 11 in our textbook.

These are our assignments for this chapter:
-Chapter 11 Reading Guide and Crossword
-Chapter 11 Review Questions
-Mushroom Dissection
-Fungi and Protist Picture Books

I am planning on conducting our mushroom dissection on Thursday. So on Thursday, students will need to wear closed toed shoes, no long jewelry, and long hair needs to be pulled back.

The fungi and protist picture books will include the information about the different kinds of fungi and protists, including why are they in those groups, what do they look like, and what do we call them. We will be working on these on Wednesday. Students will need their colored pencils or markers for this assignment.

We will have a chapter quiz on Friday.

See my website for more details, digital copies of assignments, study guides, and classroom lecture notes.

Weathering and Erosion

Next week in Earth Science we will be covering the topics of weathering and erosion. It is chapter 10 and 12 in our textbooks.

Weathering and Erosion are very important topics in the field of Earth Science. They are the one of the foundational ways that the surface of the Earth changes.

Our assignments this week are
-Chapter 10 and 12 Crossword and Reading Guides
-Chapter 10 Review Questions 1-15
-Chapter 12 Review Questions 1-15
-Valley Creation Activity

Valley Creation Activity

-We will create a plain (using soil, rocks, synthesized plant/animal life) and then use water and ice to create the three different kinds of valleys that are possible. Students will experiment with different compositions of materials in their valleys to determine what can change the rate of erosion and deposition. This will represent the factors that can impact a valley during its formation.
-Students will be asked to write a one paragraph reflection after each trial.
-This will also demonstrate how rivers can mature from stage to stage.
